How does reserving a room work?

If you are interested in renting a room with us, please send us a message >here using our contact form. We will then send you a PDF with further information. After that, we will have a video call with you to help you choose the perfect house and room, to get to know you and to give you the possibility to ask us questions.

Once you’ve decided you want to stay with us it’s time to book your room. In order to do that you will have to sign a contract, send us a copy of your passport and pay a deposit that will be returned to you at the end of your stay. Then you’re part of our community! 🎉

Is there a minimum duration for my contract?

Since most our guests are exchange students at UDLAP university, the duration of our contracts are adapted to match the duration of the semesters. This means that there are 3 periods that you can rent with us:

January – May (spring semester)
June – July (summer break)
August – December (autumn semester)

Offering contracts for only 5 months (the duration of one semester) is a big advantage over other housing companies who force you to pay six months even if you only stay for five.

If you want to stay with us for a time frame that doesn’t match these 3 periods, please talk to us and we will see if there is a room available for you.

Who will be my roommates?

At Charro Housing, we want our community to be as international as possible. That’s why we have a rule to host as few people from the same nationality in one house as possible. We usually have at least 3 different nationalities per house.

Your roommates will mostly be students on exchange semester at the university UDLAP, but there might also be students from other universities and young interns from international companies.

Before your arrival to Mexico, we’ll add you to our general WhatsApp group as well as to the WhatsApp group of your house. That way you can already get to know your future roommates before you arrive.

Are parties allowed in the houses?

In general yes.

There are a few big parties each semester, for example the Welcome Party, End of Semester Party, Halloween Party or Valentine’s Day Party. Those are organised by Charro Housing.

Smaller “precopeos” (pre-parties, drinking in the houses before going to the club) are generally allowed in every house, but only if all the roommates are ok with it and if it’s approved by the staff. So if you have an important exam the next day, you can tell your roommates that you don’t want a precopeo that day and your roommates have to respect that.

What are the common areas of the houses?

All roommates share the kitchen, the living room and the garden or terrace if the house has one. Additionally, if you choose a room without a private bathroom, you will share the bathroom with one or more other roommates.

Are there house rules?

To ensure that everyone feels comfortable in our houses, we have the following rules:

Drugs are strictly forbidden in our houses.
While “precopeos” (pre-parties early in the night) are allowed, after-parties are not allowed.
Be respectful towards the house, your roommates and the staff.

Other than that, you have the freedom to organise yourself with your roommates and create the community you want.

Am I allowed to have visitors?

We know that you might have friends or family visiting you in Mexico, so you’re allowed to have one visitor stay with you in your room. This is free for up to 5 days, after that we charge a fee of $100 MXN per night.

If you’re planning on having a visitor stay with you, please let our staff and your roommates know so they can be prepared.

Will I have a key for my room?

Yes, you will get a key for the front door of your house as well as a key for your room.
